PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, the Portland Police Bureau will host a prescription drug turn-in and shred event at their Southeast Precinct, located at 4735 East Burnside Street.

The event is a partnership with the City of Portland Office Neighborhood Involvement Crime Prevention Program, the Portland Police Bureau, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Portland Police Bureau's Sunshine Division, and Wells Fargo.

Members of the community are able to drop off unwanted or expired prescription drugs for safe disposal and unwanted sensitive documents for secure shredding on site.

According to Portland Police, acceptable items for the prescription drug turn in include: any prescription medications and samples, over the counter medications, vitamins, pet medications, medicated ointments, and liquid medication in leak proof containers.

Items not accepted include thermometers, sharps, syringes, IV bags, bloody or infectious waste, hydrogen peroxide, aerosol cans, inhalers, and EpiPens.

Sunshine Division donation barrels will be available for donations of canned food, dry pasta, and gently-used clothing for needy families. Tax deduction forms will be provided.
