PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Sewer construction starting Monday will restrict traffic to local access only in parts of Southeast Portland, according to the Bureau of Environmental Services.

According to the Bureau of Environmental Services, Hawthorne Boulevard will be restricted to local access only from Southeast Cesar Chavez Boulevard to Southeast 50th Avenue, and on Southeast 50th Avenue from Hawthorne Boulevard to Southeast Division Street.

These restrictions will take place for up to three weeks, and flaggers will move local traffic through work zones in both directions using a single lane.

Construction will cause traffic delays, according to The Bureau of Environmental Services. Motorists and bicyclists who don't need local access should use alternate routes.

The work is part of the Hawthorne Green Street and Sewer Project to replace sewer pipes, and construct green street planters to manage stormwater runoff, according to the Bureau of Environmental Services
