Early morning rollover in Washington Co. leaves woman with serious injuries

Posted: Updated:

A single vehicle accident early Sunday morning has left a Hillsboro woman with serious injuries.

Deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a crash on Northwest West Union Road near Northwest 203rd Place at 1:26 a.m. Sunday.

Deputies arrived to the scene to find a black 2002 BMW 325i overturned in a field and the passenger of the car, 39-year-old Nicole Nelson of Hillsboro, pinned underneath.

Deputies and crews from Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue used hydraulic tools to lift the car and pull Nelson out. She was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital in serious condition.

The driver of the vehicle, Cary Lovelady, 38, was out of the car by the time crews arrived on scene. Lovelady suffered minor injuries and was also transported to a nearby hospital.

Investigators with the county Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Team came to the scene to review the crash.

Their preliminary determination is that the car entered a curve at much greater speed than the posted 40 miles per hour speed limit. The investigators believe Lovelady tried to over correct his steering as the car began to go off the road, leading to the car to roll over.

Currently alcohol and speed are thought to be the major contributors to the crash as no other vehicles seemed to be involved.

Lovelady currently has his license suspended, and could face felony DUII charges due to a prior DUII conviction and due to the injuries Nelson suffered in the crash.
