ARLINGTON, OR (KPTV) -

Oregon State Police are investigating a rollover crash on Interstate 84 near Arlington that killed a Portland man and left another injured.

The crash occurred early Sunday on westbound I-84 near milepost 132, six miles west of Arlington.

According to Oregon State Police, a 1999 Chevy C15 SUV was traveling westbound when it left the roadway for an unknown reason, crashed through the north side guardrail and went down a rock embankment. The SUV came to rest about 150 feet from the roadway.

Preliminary information indicated that both the driver and passenger had not been using their seat belts at the time of the crash and were ejected from the SUV. Police say speed and fatigue are being considered contributing factors in the crash.

The driver, 24-year-old Justin Matthew Flowers, from Portland, was transported by Life Flight to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, Washington. While he was being transported to the hospital, he died from his injuries.

His passenger, 23-year-old Hayden Michael Swanson, also from Portland, was transported by ambulance to Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles. He was later transported by Life Flight to OHSU, where he is in critical but stable condition.

OSP was assisted by the Gilliam County Rural Fire Department, Oregon Department of Transportation, Life Flight, Richland Police Department and the Benton County, Washington Coroner’s Office.
