A hiker is safe after spending several hours lost in the wilderness near Mt. Hood Monday.

Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said 49-year-old Brian Woldrich of Welches lost his way in the Hidden Lakes area on Mt. Hood around 4:30 p.m. Monday.

CCSO said Woldrich had called his mother to let her know he was lost and had been trying to get back for several hours.

Crews said Woldrich had been on a day hike near Hidden Lakes when he lost sight of the trail in a snowfield.

He followed a small creek down the mountain to a larger stream, but was still unable to locate the trail.

Search and Rescue teams said they were able to locate the general area where Woldrich was believed to be around 10 p.m., but they had trouble contacting him.

Crews said they faced a number of obstacles while trying to reach the hiker.

"Our teams worked for hours to work their way through the brush," said one rescuer. "He was completely off the trail and then they also had to cross a river."

Around 1:25 a.m Tuesday. crews were able to locate Woldrich. They say he is in good condition.
