AUBURN, WA (KPTV) -

An Amber Alert issued Wednesday for a 15-month-old girl in Auburn, Washington was canceled and police said the child is safe.

The suspect, 33-year-old Anthony Burton, remains on the loose.

Police responded to a domestic violence call Sunday involving Burton and the mother of their child. Investigators said Burton threatened to kill the woman with a gun and also threatened "suicide by cop" if confronted by law enforcement.

The woman fled to call 911 and Burton left the scene with their daughter.

Investigators said Burton has told family members in the past he would kill himself, the woman and their daughter because of ongoing family issues.

Burton last spoke to police and family by phone Tuesday afternoon. Police said he refused to bring the girl to family members or authorities, and an Amber Alert was issued Wednesday morning.

By early Wednesday afternoon, the Auburn Police Department reported that the girl had been returned to her mother.

Police said Burton had a friend take the child back home. Detectives were at the mother's home when the friend showed up with the girl.

Police said Burton has not been located and is believed to be armed.

Burton is described as a black man, 6 feet tall and 150 pounds with a bald head, thin beard and mustache and a gold "grill" on his teeth.

He is believed to be driving a black 2006 Chrysler 300 series car with aftermarket chrome wheels and Washington license plates AUY0186.

Anyone who sees him is asked to call 911. Other information can be given to the Auburn Police Department at 253-931-3080.

"There is no doubt that the Amber Alert and the quick release of information from the media caused the suspect to find a way to safely get the child back to us," according to an Auburn Police Department statement.
