Two women shot during fight in NE Portland; police searching for suspect

Posted: Updated:

Two women were shot during a fight in northeast Portland early Thursday morning and police are searching for the woman who shot them.

Officers responded to the 1400 block of Northeast 118th Avenue at 3:28 a.m. on reports of a woman screaming that she had been shot.

Officers said they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound near one of the apartments in the area.

Police searched the apartment but were unable to locate the shooter. Police said they detained one man as part of the investigation, but while he was present during the shooting, he is not considered a suspect.

At 4:15 a.m. police received reports that another woman had been shot and taken to the hospital.

Police said the two victims, ages 22 and 25 years old, suffered gunshot wounds to their "lower extremities." Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Investigators said the two women were involved in a fight with a third woman inside an apartment. The third woman shot the other two with a handgun and then left the apartment, according to police.

The suspect has not been located by officers. She is described as a black woman in her 20s.

Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to contact Detective Meghan Burkeen at 503-823-2092 or
