Beaverton will play host to one of the biggest events in tennis this summer.

The United States Tennis Association announced Thursday that the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center has been selected as the site for the 2016 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group quarterfinals between the U.S. and Croatia.

The event is July 15-17.

It will be the first time the metro area hosts Davis Cup matches since the 2007 Davis Cup finals took place at the Memorial Coliseum in Portland.

In that event, Andy Roddick, James Blake and Bob and Mike Bryan won the last Davis Cup title for the U.S. over Russia.

The Memorial Coliseum also hosted Davis Cup matches in 1981 and 1984.

The USTA will be constructing a 6,000-seat stadium around the current main court at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center for the event. The USTA partnered with the Oregon Sports Authority to bring the Davis Cup to Beaverton.

Three-day ticket packages go on sale June 3, with prices ranging from $90 to $500. Single-day tickets will go on sale June 24 from $40 to $175 per day.

The best-of-five match series begins July 15 with two singles matches featuring each country's No. 1 player against the other country's No. 2 player. Saturday's schedule features a doubles match, and the final day of play on Sunday features the two "reverse singles" matches, with the No. 1 players squaring off, followed by the No. 2 players meeting each other in the final match.

All matches are best-of-five sets until one nation clinches the tie. A revised schedule for Sunday may take place if a team clinches in the third or fourth match.

The winner will advance to the World Group semifinal on Sept. 16-18 for a chance to compete for the 2016 Davis Cup title.
