Eugene Police preparing for Donald Trump rally on Friday

EUGENE, OR (KPTV) -

Donald Trump is coming to Eugene on Friday and the city is concerned about security due to past clashes of protesters at his rallies.

There have been violent clashes of protesters break out at other Trump rallies, and the Eugene Police Department are trying to make sure that kind of thing doesn't happen on their watch.

Trump is set to speak at the Lane Events Center at 7 p.m.

The Eugene Police Chief gave an update on Thursday about what they're doing to prepare.

Chief of Police Pete Kerns said they learned about the visit on Monday and have been operating at light speed. They are working together with the Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies to make sure both Trump and the community are safe.

Attendees will have to go through a security screening similar to what you'd find at an airport checkpoint.

Eugene Police said they're taking extra steps because of the violence at some previous Trump rallies. They said they will have a policing presence focused on preventing that from happening.

Kerns said they feel well prepared and expect the event will be civil.

Trump was also hoping to make a stop in Vancouver on Saturday but organizers said they can't find a venue big enough that isn't already booked.
