Driver, victim identified in suspected speed racing crash on Hwy 99

MCMINNVILLE, OR (KPTV) -

Police Friday identified the drivers and passengers involved in a deadly crash along Highway 99 near McMinnville.

Oregon State Police said 24-year-old Jeromy Hopper had been driving north in a 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer around 9 p.m. Wednesday when he spun out of control and struck a 2004 Honda Odyssey head-on.

Hopper suffered serious injuries, according to OSP.

Hopper’s passenger, 18-year-old Natasha Fisher, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the van, 43-year-old Claudio Martinez Marquez, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical officials.

The passenger of the van, 33-year-old Bonifacio Martinez Garcia, was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

Police said the driver of a silver 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer remained at the scene after the crash.

No charges have been filed.

Officials suspect speed racing was the cause of this incident. Anyone with information should contact OSP.
