EUGENE, OR (KPTV) -

People began lining up hours before Donald Trump was set to speak in Eugene on Friday.

Hundreds of people gathered outside the Lane Events Center throughout the afternoon leading up to the evening rally.

"I've actually been a lifelong Democrat until I decided to register to vote Republican to vote for Mr. Trump," said Sabrina-Marie Bell.

But while supporters eagerly waited to see the Republican presidential candidate in person, others weren't so welcoming of Trump to Oregon.

Protesters with signs and banners also gathered outside the Lane Events Center on Friday afternoon, with some standing in the street and blocking a road into the event.

Some people who don't support Trump said they still wanted to attend the rally.

"I think Donald Trump is a fascist and I think everything he stands for is disgusting, and I'm here to take a look at it from the inside because I find it repulsive," said Winter Peterson of Eugene.

Trump was set to speak at the rally at 7 p.m.

The Eugene Police Department said they were working with the Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies to make sure Trump and the community are safe.

Police Chief Pete Kerns said he expected the event to be civil, even though past Trump rallies have featured clashes between supporters and protesters.
