CORNELIUS, OR (KPTV) -

Two men were taken into custody after an armed robbery in Cornelius early Saturday morning, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the report just after 4:15 a.m. on Southwest 7th Avenue.

The two suspects demanded money, assaulted the victim, and fled the scene, according to deputies.

Deputies quickly found one suspect, identified as Johnathan Zurita-Veladiz, 20, of Cornelius.

After investigation, deputies learned that a gun was involved in the robbery and continued their search for the second suspect.

The second suspect, Luis Rios, 19, of Portland was later found inside a home on North Davis Street. After negotiating with Rios for several hours, he surrendered to deputies.

Rios was charged with a robbery, assault, and a parole violation.

Zurita-Veladiz was charged with robbery I and assault III.

"The community worked together with the police to take the suspects into custody," the victim’s mother said in a statement.
