SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

A motorcyclist died in a head-on crash on Silverton Road Northeast early Saturday morning near the same location he crashed his motorcycle less than two years earlier, according to investigators.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office identified the man on the motorcycle as 32-year-old Joshua Rich of Silverton.

Investigators said Rich was driving his 2014 Harley Davidson east on Silverton Road at 81st Avenue Northeast near Salem at 1:53 a.m. Saturday when he attempted to pass a Ford F150.

Rich clipped the pickup, according to investigators, and then collided head-on with a westbound 2004 Ford Explorer.

Deputies said Rich was killed instantly.

The Explorer burst into flames, but there were no other reports of injuries.

Deputies said Rich was involved in a similar incident in August 2014 near the same location. In that case, deputies applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding from a severe leg injury, helping to save Rich's life.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office concluded its investigation into Saturday's crash and determined Rich was passing recklessly and no citations will be issued in this case.
