COWLITZ COUNTY, WA (KPTV) -

A 4-year-old boy was seriously injured after falling from a second story window Monday afternoon in Kelso.

The child was flown to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center by medical helicopter for trauma-related injuries.

According to Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue the young boy was unconscious when they arrived at the scene on the 100 block of Solomon Road in Kelso at around 1:30 p.m.

Two adults were at the home when it is believed the child climbed out of a window that did not have a screen in place.

Firefighters urge parents to take precautions during this warm weather season to keep their children from falling out of windows. They suggest keeping windows closed and screens on, keeping furniture away from windows and using window guards if windows are open during hot days.

The United Sates Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that approximately eight deaths and 3,300 injuries among children ages five and under occur annually due to window falls.
