PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man who pleaded guilty to arson and assault charges after investigators said he doused a man in gasoline and set him on fire has been sentenced to prison.

Joshua Bigsby, 29, was sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison in the arson case Monday. He received an additional 2 1/2 years in prison for an unlawful weapons possession charge in a separate case.

He pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree arson, first-degree assault and second-degree assault in April.

Bigsby was arrested in September 2015. Court documents state he met a couple at a bar and they invited him back to their apartment near Southeast 157th and Division Street.

Bigsby and three women with him were asked to leave after an altercation, but a probable cause affidavit states Bigsby returned with a gas can that he poured on a man who was trying to hold the door closed.

Court documents state there were six people in the apartment when Bigsby started the fire, including two young children.

Court documents state Bigsby was caught on camera returning to the apartment with a gas can in his hands and later running away, losing a shoe in the process that appeared to have caught on fire.

An adult jumped out of a second story window to escape the fire, according to court documents.

Bigsby was facing additional charges, including attempted murder, but those charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Two others reached plea agreements in connection with this case. Cynthia Smith pleaded guilty in April to charges of second-degree arson and tampering with a witness. Myriah Williams pleaded no contest to first-degree arson and third-degree assault.
