SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

Far from conceding defeat, Senator Bernie Sanders spoke passionately about his chances to still claim the Democratic nomination at a packed rally in Salem on Tuesday.

Sanders walked to the stage at the Salem Armory Auditorium to thunderous applause, and quickly distanced himself from Hillary Clinton, whom he trails in overall delegate count, and invoked the name of Republican front-runner Donald Trump, pointing out polls that show he would fare better than Clinton against Trump in a national election.

“This campaign is going to win because we are listening to the American people,” said Sanders.

In a fiery, nearly hour-long speech, Sanders stuck to his political guns, calling for a national minimum wage increase, free college tuition, and raising taxes on the rich and wealthy corporations.

“We need a president that has the history and the courage to take on the billionaire class,” said Sanders.

Sanders again admitted his path to victory is a narrow one, but coming off a win in West Virginia Tuesday night, he remained optimistic about his chances in both Oregon and California.
