PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A massive birthday party was held Wednesday afternoon in downtown Portland to celebrate the birthdays of the city's homeless.

Portland Rescue Mission hosts the party every year inside their Burnside shelter.

There was live music, food, games, and even a photo booth.

According to Engagement Communications Manager Mike Deckon, the Rescue Mission believes no one should ever feel like they've been forgotten, especially on their birthday.

“A lot of these people haven't celebrated birthdays for years,” he said. “They're used to being overlooked or neglected and sometimes even abused, so when they come in the message is they haven't been forgotten and they are valuable. That's a very important message for a lot of people to hear.”

Partygoers also received birthday cards from the public with words of encouragement written inside.
