A Keizer man was arrested after leading police on a chase that ended on a little league field, with the suspect eventually found hiding in a chicken coop.

According to Keizer Police, 20-year-old Colton McElroy sped away from an officer trying to make a traffic stop, then drove through a church parking lot, down an embankment, and through a little league complex before crashing into a fence.

“We went running to see where he was heading,” said Paul McGrath, president of the Keizer Little League, who was prepping a field for the night’s games when he saw a car barreling past. “He had run into the fence at the end and was stopped and the police were there, and at that time, he was on the run.”

Officers eventually found McElroy hiding in a chicken coop behind a vacant home on Chemawa Road Northeast.

He was arrested on charges of Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering, and Eluding Police.

McGrath said, fortunately, no players or parents were in the path of the fleeing vehicle, and no one was hurt.
