3-yr-old boy critically injured after falling from second-story window in Tigard

Firefighters said a 3-year-old boy is in critical condition after he fell from a second-story window in Tigard Wednesday night.

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue arrived at the scene on Southwest Kostel Lane around 9:30 p.m.

Firefighters said the boy had pushed the screen out of a second-story window on the side of the house and had fallen onto the concrete sidewalk below.

Because of the steep incline of the terrain, the boy fell about 10 feet, according to officials.

Crews added that the family of the boy was home at the time of the incident.

The toddler was transported to Oregon Health & Science University with critical injuries.

A 4-year-old boy in Kelso was also injured after falling out a window Monday. He is expected to recover.

According to Safe Kids Worldwide, unintentional falls are the number one cause of non-fatal injures for children. About 38 percent of those children are 4 years or younger.

TVF&R said most of these falls occur during the spring and summer months, when most windows are left open.

Firefighters want families to remember that most screens are not strong enough to keep kids in and home owners should install window guards or stops.
