TIGARD, OR (KPTV) -

It might seem like an animal invasion, but a Tigard Police officer seems to be running into furry – even feathered – friends lately while on duty.

Officer Kaci Mace is tough enough to take down criminals, but she has a soft spot for animals too.

"You never know what you're going to encounter when you come to work, and for me, any type of animal call is a great one," she said.

Fox 12 caught up with Mace on Wednesday to talk about a couple of her recent encounters. A tweet from Tigard Police shows a parrot named "Bird" and Officer Mace posing for a photo.

That happened after she pulled up on Southwest 68th Parkway, where a man was trying to fix his car and his friendly pet just perched on the patrol car.

And about a week and a half ago, Officer Mace responded to a call about a horse on the loose. That turned out to be horse in someone's yard, where it was supposed to be, and a driver just thought it looked like it was on the loose.

It made for a great work day, and a perfect photo op for Officer Mace, of course.

"We got a call that there was a horse walking down the street, which is unusual in the city limits," said Mace.

She added, "Well, I'm a big animal lover, so anytime I encounter animals on a call, I always pet them and try to engage with them, and so the bird was no different."

Officer Mace said these two recent animal calls are not completely unique. She has responded to a family of geese on Interstate 5, and has heard of reports of tortoises crawling across Highway 217.
