PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The Rose Festival is Portland's biggest cultural celebration, and since it's inception 100 years ago, PGE has participated.

This year, PGE decided to use their Rose Festival float to shine a light on a very special program in the Portland area.

When completed, PGE's float will resemble an artist rendering of a giant guitar on wheels, carrying young musicians who will perform throughout the entire parade route.

"And then there will be a variety of images of visual arts, dance, theater, music. So, we're really excited to see that come to life," said PGE Director of Corporate Responsibility Kregg Arnston.

With this years entry, PGE chose to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Work for Art. It's a local program that supports more than 100 arts and culture groups in the Portland area.

"As a company, we really view arts and culture as a way to inspire creativity and innovation, and problem solving," said Arnston.

People at Work for Art appreciate the recognition.

"We're really excited that PGE is putting the arts front and center in the Rose Festival this year. I think it's fun to see that they've chosen music for their floats, and that guitar," said Jeff Hawthorne with Work for Art.

Come parade time, PGE and Work for Art will have a lot to celebrate.

The Work for Art Program relies heavily on contributions from local employers and their employees. For the last several years, PGE workers have contributed more to the program than any other local company or organizations.
