ASTORIA, OR (KPTV) -

A sushi restaurant worker is accused of sexually abusing a woman he was training, according to the Astoria Police Department.

Detectives arrested 31-year-old Maximo Cruz Figueroa of Seaside on Tuesday on charges of third-degree sexual abuse and harassment with a sexual component.

Detectives received a report May 6 from a 26-year-old Astoria woman who said she had been hired the previous day at Tora Sushi on the 1100 block of Commercial Street in Astoria.

The woman told police Figueroa inappropriately touched her while he was training her.

Management at Tora Sushi cooperated with the investigation and placed Figueroa on leave pending the completion of the investigation.

"Circumstances like this often go unreported to police for various reasons. When we learn of these situations we become concerned about whether there may be other victims," said Deputy Chief Eric Halverson.

Any former co-workers or potential victims with more information about Figueroa are asked to contact Detective Thomas Litwin at 503-325-4411 or tlitwin@astoria.or.us.
