Burglars damage two storefronts in NE Portland

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A rash of burglaries continues on Portland’s east side as two more small businesses were targeted recently.

Thieves damaged the storefronts of Pip’s Original Doughnuts and Paperjam Press on Northeast Fremont.

The suspects broke through the glass doors of both businesses which are now boarded up.

Nothing is missing, so both owners cannot imagine what the motive was.

Deborah Field, the owner of Paperjam Press, is looking on the bright side after police came to her door in the middle of the night saying someone broke into her shop.

The suspects had rummaged through all the drawers, but did not seem to take anything.

It is a similar story happened at Pip’s Original Doughnuts. Neighbors heard a commotion around 3 a.m. and called police and owner Nate Snell.

The suspects had broken through the door of Pip’s with a rock, but left without touching anything else.

Snell wonders if they want money or just attention.

These burglaries have similarities to others in the area recently, including a break-in at Albina Press Coffee on North Albina Avenue, and Firelight Yoga on Killingsworth where thieves stole a cash drawer.

Field said it is unsettling to know they are still at it.

She added that she had not seen any suspicious people around her shop lately, so she does not think burglars cased her shop ahead of time.
