LONGVIEW, WA (KPTV) -

A suspect is in custody after he allegedly beat a woman repeatedly with a pistol at a home in Longview early Monday morning.

Deputies responded to the 100 block of Solo View Drive at around 3 a.m.

Deputies said a woman called 911 saying that a man had attacked her while she was sleeping and that she was bleeding from the head.

Investigators said the woman awoke to 36-year-old Brent Luyster hitting her in the head and face with a pistol. Luyster then grabbed her by the hair and dragged her down a hallway, according to investigators.

Deputies believe when they approached the scene, Luyster ran into a wooded area behind the house and began shooting at them. Deputies eventually convinced him to surrender.

No deputies were injured.

Several firearms were recovered from the woods where Luyster had been hiding.

Luyster was booked into the Cowlitz County Jail on felony charges of reckless endangerment, second-degree assault and nine counts of unlawful possession of firearms.

Investigators said Luyster and the victim know each other. The woman told detectives she had no idea why Luyster attacked her.
