SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

A man who tried stealing a truck in Salem then pulled a gun on the owner when he was caught was sentenced in court.

Uriel Osornio Jr. was sentenced to 19 years in prison on Monday.

On Dec. 10, 2015, a 64-year-old man told detectives that he returned to find an unknown man burglarizing his home, located in the 5500 block of 8th Avenue Southeast.

Police said the burglar confronted the man, held him at gunpoint and assaulted him. The victim attempted to defend himself, police said, and gunfire was exchanged between the two men.

The victim was shot and suffered a non-life threatening injury.

Osornio was later arrested.

On April 29, Osornio pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated murder, burglary in the first and second degree, assault in the second degree, and felon in possession of a firearm.

Osornio's 19 year sentence also includes time for an unrelated burglary conviction.
