PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Oregon is the second worst state in the U.S. for people looking to launch a career and make a good living, according to website MoneyRates.com.

A new study by the financial news site ranks Oregon 49th on their list. Hawaii comes in at last place.

The site looked at median income, unemployment rates, cost of living, taxes and more.

The site based its ranking for Oregon due to the state’s income taxes and high cost of living, which the study showed was 29.5 percent higher than the national average.

It's an entirely different story in Washington, which came in at second on the list, just behind Wyoming in the top spot.

The site did note Washington’s higher-than-average cost of living, but praised its high median salary and the absence of a state income tax.
