MADRAS, OR (KPTV) -

A woman and her three sons were killed when their van was rear-ended and pushed into oncoming traffic south of Madras.

Oregon State Police said Anita Bemrose, 49, of Madras, was driving a Pontiac van northbound on Highway 97 Tuesday afternoon when she stopped in the travel lane to make a left turn onto Bear Lane south of town.

A vehicle behind Bemrose nearly rear-ended the van but passed on the right shoulder of the highway.

Investigators said another vehicle, a Ford van, wasn't able to stop in time and slammed into the Pontiac at highway speeds. The impact pushed the Pontiac van into oncoming traffic, where it collided with a southbound Honda Accord.

Two of the boys riding in the Pontiac van, ages 12 and 14, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The other, age 10, was transported along with Bemrose to Saint Charles Medical Center in Bend, both with life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said Bemrose died at the hospital Tuesday.

The 10-year-old boy also later died at the hospital.

The driver of the Honda Accord, Shirley Ayres, 69, of Madras, and the driver of the Ford van, Bryan McDonald, 41, of Redmond, were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators asked for the public's help locating the driver who nearly collided with the Pontiac van. Anyone with information should call Oregon State Police at 503-375-3555.
