PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man who led Washington troopers on a pursuit across the state line in a stolen car was arrested following a standoff at a motel in north Portland, police said Wednesday afternoon.

The Portland Police Bureau said officers responded to the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 near North Victory Boulevard at approximately 9 a.m. to assist the Washington State Patrol in the pursuit of a stolen car.

The suspect, Cory James Jackson, 35, was allegedly involved in a shooting of some kind, police said.

Officers were able to locate the stolen car in the 8900 block of North Vancouver Way but Jackson was not inside.

Police learned Jackson may have been at the Viking Motel on North Interstate Avenue and established surveillance at the motel.

After observing Jackson enter a room at the motel, police called in the Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) due to the possibility that Jackson may have been armed with a gun.

Police said Jackson exited the motel room and surrendered peacefully at approximately 1:15 p.m.

Police said they will continue their investigation and book Jackson into jail once charges have been determined.
