PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The Portland Police Bureau’s Transit Division has made an arrest tied to the April assault of a TriMet bus driver.

Officers arrested a 15-year-old suspect Tuesday at Peninsula Park, who is now in the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Home facing a charge of assault.

According to police, the investigation began on April 4, when officers responded to the report of a bus operator who was assaulted at Southeast 122nd Avenue and Powell Boulevard.

The driver was not seriously hurt in the incident, according to police.

Initially, officers were working to identify three people who were seen on the bus at the time of the assault.

Through the investigation, officers determined that the 15-year-old was the suspect in the assault and the other two people may no have played an active role in the incident.

According to police, under Oregon law, intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly causing physical injury to the operator of a public transit vehicle while the operator is in control of or operating the vehicle, is a felony crime of Assault in the Third Degree.
