Portland police officers arrested a suspect they say pulled a gun on a child in order to steal a hover board.

East Precinct officers responded to a call Tuesday evening at Southeast 96th Avenue and Harold Street where the found a 13-year-old had been robbed at gunpoint of a hover board.

According to court documents, the teen was walking down Harold Street with two friends when the suspect’s vehicle pulled up beside him, and the suspect asked the teen if he liked his hover board.

The teen and the two others told police the suspect then pulled a small revolver, at which point the teen dropped the hover board and ran from the scene, as did his friends.

Officers patrolling the area spotted a suspect vehicle on Southeast 97th Avenue and Holgate Boulevard. They stopped the vehicle, detaining the driver and four passengers.

Officers found a firearm in the vehicle, as well as the stolen hover board. Detectives at the scene determined that Kwaleam Pinkly, 20, was the suspect in the robbery.

Pinkly faces robbery charges and was booked into the Multnomah County Jail.
