A scary experience for a 13-year-old boy in southeast Portland ended with serious criminal charges against the man police say robbed him of his hover board at gunpoint.

According to police, the boy was carrying his hover board while walking home from the Lents Market near Southeast 98th Avenue and Harold Street when a car full of men pulled up, and one of the passengers inquired about the hover board, then pointed a gun at the boy.

The boy’s mother, who asked not to be identified, said her son came home and said he’d been robbed.

The woman then got in her car and, with her son’s help, tracked down the vehicle used in the robbery, then called police.

Officers arrested 20-year-old Kwaleam Pinkly, who they say had a gun in his possession, on robbery charges.

The hover board was recovered in the trunk of the car, and returned to the boy, police said.
