HILLSBORO, OR (KPTV) -

The man accused of hitting a 13-year-old boy with his car and then taking off faced a judge for the first time Thursday.

Ceferino Santos is behind bars in Washington County, one day after police were in the middle of their investigation at the crash scene in Hillsboro.

Santos is facing one charge of hit and run. Police also arrested him for DUII, but prosecutors are not currently pursuing that charge.

Santos, who just turned 22 last week, did not enter a plea during his brief court appearance.

He is accused of hitting a 13-year-old boy with his car around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of witch hazel and river road, then driving off.

Police caught up to him later, after they say he crashed the car into a ditch off river road.

Police said Santos had his girlfriend and a child in the car when he hit the boy, and that he crashed into the ditch after dropping them off.

The 13-year-old boy went to OHSU to be treated for minor injuries.
