PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Multnomah County is offering a free lead screening clinic Friday in response to high levels of airborne lead detected in Southeast Portland.

The free screenings will take place from 2-6 p.m. at the Multnomah County Health Center, located at 3653 Southeast 34th Ave.

On Thursday, Multnomah County learned that a DEQ air monitor south of the Bullseye Glass Company detected lead levels at more than three times the state's health benchmark.

Health Department officials recommend pregnant women and children under 5 who live, work or attend childcare within a half mile of Bullseye Glass be tested. Testing will also be offered to anyone who is concerned.

Results from the fingerprick blood test will appear within 3 minutes.

"We sincerely hope that the exposure from Bullseye Glass is a rare event that did not endanger our residents,''  said Dr.Paul Lewis, Multnomah County Health Officer.

The director of environmental health said Friday's free event is just the first of a series that will be offered.
