WALDPORT, OR (KPTV) -

Lincoln County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a man after he attempted to elude deputies by vehicle and on foot.

On Thursday around 1:17 a.m., LCSO Sergeant Adam Shanks found a suspicious vehicle illegally parked on Northwest Seafarer Court off of Highway 101 north of Waldport.

Sgt. Shanks attempted to make contact with the people in the vehicle, but it took off. Sgt. Shanks pursued the vehicle which drove recklessly through the neighborhood, hitting and damaging private property at a home in the 2700 block of NW Seafarer Court.

The vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway and a female passenger exited and was arrested.

The driver refused to comply with verbal commands from the deputy.

The Newport Police Department, along with more LCSO deputies, responded to the scene.

Officers tried to negotiate with the driver for over an hour without success. Officers then attempted to get into the vehicle by breaking a rear door window, but the driver took off and began driving recklessly again.

The driver crashed the vehicle into a large stump on a vacant lot and fled on foot before police arrived.

Officers searched the area but did not locate the driver.

Around 9:30 a.m., a LCSO deputy found the driver, Sean Michael Rieschel, 45, in front of the Baymart Store on Northwest Bayshore Drive and arrested him.

Rieschel was taken to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital where he was evaluated by health professionals and then taken to Lincoln County Jail.

Rieschel is being charged with reckless driving, recklessly endangering another, fail to perform duties of a driver when property is damaged, criminal mischief in the second degree, attempt to elude in a vehicle, attempt to elude on foot, and interfering with a peace officer.

His bail is set at $140,000.
