Police: Arson unit investigating small explosion at SE Portland Fred Meyer

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Crews from the Portland Fire and Rescue's Arson Unit are investigating a small explosion at the Foster Fred Meyer Saturday.

According to Portland Police, officers responded to the Foster Fred Meyer, located at 5253 Southeast 82nd Avenue, at approximately 11:55 a.m.

Police said the explosion occurred at isle 13 among the small travel sized items that were on display.

The Metropolitan Explosives Disposal Unit confirmed that the explosion came as a result of a small explosive device, according to Portland Police.

Arson Investigators from Portland Fire & Rescue and the Portland Police Bureau are taking over the investigation, working closely with EDU bomb techs.

According to the Portland Police Bureau, there were no injuries and no major damage to the store.

The store remains open and there is no indication of any continued risk to the public, according to Portland Police.
