MORE learns how a fifth grader became an entrepreneur

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A fifth grader turned entrepreneur is paving the way for young animal lovers in her neighborhood.

11-year-old Riley Barnes is the boss of her very own pet sitting business.

Riley is using her passion for animals to start her business but she says it’s not about making money, she simply just loves spending time with dogs.

Riley decided to start her own pet sitting business, and before she knew it she was watching three or sometimes four dogs at her home.

Through the site Rover.com, which connects pet owners with animal lovers, Riley found the perfect way to dive into her future career.

Her parents say it’s the perfect way to teach her about responsibility and now she’s encouraging other young people to find jobs they love too.

The online company launched in 2011 allows pet sitters to set their own rates and schedules.

You must be 18 to sign up, but by running her profile as a family, Riley and her dad can learn about the business together.

Barnes is hoping to save up for her first car.
