Men rescued after flipping their boat in the Columbia River Slough

Posted: Updated:

Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a flipped boat in the Columbia River Slough around 1:00 p.m. Monday.

When deputies arrived they found the two men who had been in the boat hanging on to a log in the water nearby.

The first deputy on scene was able to communicate to the men and determine both men were wearing life vests. One of the men did say he could not swim.

It took about 50 minutes for deputies to get a boat to scene and rescue the two men and safely return them to the shore.

Deputies then got to the the overturned boat and towed it to the boat launch.

The Sheriff's Office credits the men with wearing their life vests while in the boat for the success of the rescue, noting that most someone may not have time to put on a vest in the case of an accident.
