More questions are mounting after Portland Police Chief Larry O’Dea admitted he accidentally shot his friend on a hunting trip.

The Independent Police Review Board has launched an investigation, and several agencies are now investigating this shooting, including the Oregon State Police and the Oregon Department of Justice.

For now, Portland’s top cop is staying quiet about the incident, which happened just over a month ago.

When contacted for an interview with O’Dea Monday, the Portland Police Bureau responded with the following statement:

“Chief O’Dea is unable to offer any comments on the ongoing investigation by the Oregon State Police or the internal investigation.

Chief O’Dea has been given a Communication Restriction Order (CRO) by the bureau's professional standards division, which is a written order that restricts the Chief from discussing the facts of the case.”

The investigations relate to an incident in Harney County on April 21, when O’Dea was on vacation.

The Chief said he was out hunting when he claimed he had a negligent discharge of his .22-caliber rifle and shot his close friend in the back.

The man was rushed to a local hospital where he was treated and eventually released.

The Harney County Sheriff’s office was notified of the shooting and investigators responded.

O’Dea was sworn in as Chief in January 2015, and he has been with the PPB for almost 30 years.

Mayor Charlie Hales also serves as the police commissioner, and FOX 12 asked for a comment from his office Monday.

A spokeswoman said that the mayor is traveling to Washington DC but that all of these investigations are standard procedures.
