VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

A Clark County man is facing attempted murder charges after investigators say he broke into his estranged wife's home, shot her and her boyfriend, and then was eventually disarmed by his 11-year-old son.

When Clark County Sheriff's Deputies arrived at the home in the 9700 block of NE 115th Court in Vancouver Saturday morning, they said they found 42-year-old Ruben Blancas being held down by his 11-year-old son and his estranged wife's boyfriend.

Both Blanca's wife and her boyfriend had been shot.

"About six o'clock and I just saw two Sheriff cars there and the Paddy wagon," said neighbor Gisele Mobley.

Mobley has lived two houses down for about ten years.

"I'm surprised the husband is the one. I had no idea."

According to court documents, Blancas and his wife had been separated for over a year.

Investigators said Blancas pried open the door of the home and looked in on his son in his bedroom. Moments later, his son heard a gunshot and ran into his mother's bedroom to see his father holding a .22 caliber rifle.

Investigators said the boy, along with his mom's boyfriend, tackled his father and held him down until deputies arrived.

"It's sad, you know. I'd be terrified if one of my kids had to see it. I'm glad my grandchildren weren't here at the time."

Deputies said Blancas' wife and her boyfriend were both shot in the upper arm and are expected to recover.

Mobley said she can't believe the man she lived next to for years would resort to violence.

"As far as I remember Ruben, he was always very helpful. He always said come over and get me if you need some help. When I put up flags or something high up, he didn't want me to climb up. No, he was a nice guy."

Public records indicate Blancas' wife got a restraining order against him in December 2015.

Blancas is being held on $300,000 bond.
