Domestic violence suspect killed in officer-involved shooting in Gresham

GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) -

A domestic violence suspect was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Gresham early Tuesday morning.

Multiple witnesses called 911 at 3:05 a.m. to report an assault involving a man and woman on the 800 block of Southeast 190th Avenue, with the woman screaming for help and being forced into a vehicle against her will.

Minutes later, additional witnesses reported seeing the woman screaming and banging against the inside of the car on the 18900 block of Southeast Grant Street, which is a cul-de-sac about 14 blocks south of the location of the initial calls.

Two officers arrived at the scene and confronted the 22-year-old suspect. The man was in the roadway when he was shot.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers were injured. The condition of the woman was not immediately known, according to police.

Detectives are not releasing the names of the people involved in the shooting at this time.  

Per standard protocol, all officers directly involved in the shooting have been placed on leave during the initial phases of the investigation.

Detectives with the Multnomah County Major Crimes Team are leading the investigation with the assistance of the Portland Police Bureau.

The roadway surrounding the shooting scene is expected to be closed into Tuesday afternoon.
