MARION COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

The dog that was reportedly stolen after a property dispute in Turner has been recovered and returned to its owner.

The dog, a 4-year-old black whippet named Isis, was recovered Saturday.

Marion County deputies requested the assistance of Portland police officers to check a home in Portland in connection with the case. Officers said they spotted the dog in the home and a man holding Isis later surrendered the dog to them.

Deputies are investigating how the man obtained Isis and whether he was involved in the initial theft of the dog.

Isis was allegedly stolen by 39-year-old Rose Mary Skoda-Kempton, also known as Brooke Kempton, after she was involved in a landlord-tenant dispute in April.

The tenant, 30-year-old Kate Taylor, was asked by Kempton to move out of a home on Sams Place Southeast, claiming that she had been disrespectful.

Several days later, Kempton went to Taylor’s father’s home and claimed Taylor had stolen two of her saddles, and she was going to take Taylor’s dog until the saddles were returned.

Kempton was later convinced by her attorney to turn herself in. She arrived on April 29 in a limousine at the Marion County Court Annex and was arrested.

Kempton is charged with robbery and theft.

This story was corrected to show the dog was recovered from a home in Portland on Saturday.
