Chief female umpire inspires Tigard Little League athletes

Posted: Updated:
TIGARD, OR (KPTV) -

After 44 years of playing shortstop and third baseman, Connie Kling still finds her way to the field each week.

Kling is going on her 14th year as a volunteer softball umpire for Tigard Little League.

As Umpire in Chief, she manages volunteers and makes sure every game is covered.

Local coaches have come to know Kling as one of the best umpires in the league because of her consistency. However, young athletes are inspired by her dedication and love for the game.

Kling is one four females among 50 volunteer umpires.
