PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A registered sex offender accused of firing dozens of rounds at police officers during a standoff at a mobile home park also assaulted a police dog, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

Officers responded to a report of a disturbance involving Timothy James Bucher, 63, at the Fox Run Mobile Home Park around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Bucher was fighting with his wife, then confronted a pregnant neighbor with a knife and her husband with a handgun, police said. When officers arrived they said Bucher pointed a gun at them.

He retreated into his trailer and fired dozens of rounds at police with an AK-47 style rifle, hitting neighboring mobile homes. Two SERT officers fired back at one point, and the SERT team shot tear gas into Bucher’s home.

Bucher came out of his trailer to surrender, but officers said he would not cooperate causing police to use a stun gun to take him into custody.

He’s also accused of assaulting a police dog sent to help bring him into custody.

Bucher was taken to the hospital to be treated for a dog bite, then booked into jail.

He will be arraigned Thursday on three counts of attempted aggravated murder, two counts of menacing, three counts of recklessly endangering another person, 10 counts of unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of felon in possession of a firearm and one count of assaulting a public safety animal.

The officers involved in last night's shooting have been identified as Sergeant James Darby and Officer Chad Gradwahl. They are on paid leave while the incident is being investigated, which is standard procedure.

Neither Bucher’s wife nor his mother, who was in the home when the incident began but ran out after officers arrived, were hurt.
