Car crash survivors get help with their wedding

Posted: Updated:

Last September, a couple from California hit the road with everything they owned in their car and headed north to get married and start a new life in Oregon.

Just a few miles in their trip, Tye Strong and Jenny Marquez got into a severe crash and barely survived. They both suffered multiple broken bones and other injuries. All of their belongings burned up at the crash scene.

The couple was homeless for a short time and say they were blessed to meet a woman who gave them her old minivan.

They finally made it up to Portland where they are living and working now.

Recently, people started sharing their story on Facebook and the staff at a local wedding venue took notice. They contacted Tye and Jenny and offered to host their wedding at Creekside Estates in Washougal at a discounted rate.

A company called "Events with Memory’z" is also providing a DJ for free. Jenny and Tye say they are simply in awe of all the kindness and generosity.
"It feels good," Jenny said. "People in Oregon are the nicest people and I say that every day to him. Because in California, it’s a whole different ball game. Here in Oregon, they’ve been so good to us – the venue, the event coordinator, the DJ."
Jenny and Tye will be married at Creekside Estates on June 4.
