Precision Castparts holds meeting to address air quality concerns

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Precision Castparts held a community meeting Wednesday to address the community’s concerns around air quality.

Monitoring from the DEQ found toxins above what are called “health-protective” air quality goals.

Neighbors in the area have filed a lawsuit, asking the company to stop releasing nickel and other pollutants into the air.

Precision Castparts says it just upgraded several controls, and will have a new stormwater filtration system and new baghouse in the next two months.

“We don't want to be known for orange clouds and spills -- want to be known for someone who provides a safe environment and safe clean air to breathe,” said Aaron Johnson, Southeast Portland General Manager.

The company says DEQ added that there is no immediate health concern.
