Sheriff: Man robs Milwaukie Fred Meyer, shoots glass door to escape

MILWAUKIE, OR (KPTV) -

Deputies are searching for a man who robbed several self-checkout registers and then shot at a glass door to escape at a Fred Meyer in Milwaukie Wednesday night.

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened at a Fred Meyer location at 14700 SE McLoughlin Blvd. just before 11 p.m.

CCSO said the man walked into the store just before closing time and proceed to wander the store until it closed at 11 p.m.

Surveillance video shows the man approaching the self-checkout stands as they were being emptied.

Deputies said the man stole two baskets of cash. The exact amount of money is unknown.

Fred Meyer employees attempted to stop the man. He then drew a handgun and shot out the glass of the locked exit to make is his escape, according to Clackamas Co. officials.

The man drove away in a grey 2013 Kia Soul with no license plates. Deputies recovered the car a short distance away.

Deputies believe the car was stolen from a nearby dealership.
