Frustrated Portland tenants took to the streets Thursday, protesting an awards banquet for property managers.
The event, hosted by the industry group Multifamily Northwest, was greeted with dozens of people marching and holdings signs in front of the Portland Art Museum, where the event was scheduled to be held.
Among the protesters was Lucy Blue, who was recently given a no-cause eviction, forcing her to leave the home she has rented for more than five years.
“It’s devastating,” said Blue. “It’s demoralizing. You kind of question a lot about your safety and your security, and where you’re going to go.”
Guests attending the gala had no comment, but Multifamily NW did release a written statement, acknowledging the area’s rising rents and housing crisis, but not directly addressing Thursday’s event.
