He's been named the best young soccer player in the nation, and Fox 12 is hearing from the 15-year-old winner who's from right here in Oregon.

Alan Gaytan, 15, was named the 2016 Sueno MLS winner. Gaytan is a freshman at Reynolds High School in Troutdale and was honored at halftime of Thursday night’s T2 match at Providence Park.

Born in Los Angeles but raised in the Beaver State, Gaytan received the award at the national finals in LA last weekend.

"I had tons of anxiety … when they announced it, I was just speechless and my parents were both happy, my mom started screaming and stuff, I was just really happy," he said. "I'm happy I'm a part of this, and all the experience I gained from this, I'm just like, I'm blessed."

By winning the 10th annual Sueno award, Gaytan has earned a spot in the Portland Timbers Academy.
