Many Americans take advantage of Memorial Day weekend and use it to travel and spend time with family.

Travel officials are expecting 2016 to have the second-busiest Memorial Day weekend on record.

According to AAA, over 38 million Americans are expected to travel via car or plane over the next several days.

Officials said 70 percent of people will drive while the rest will fly.

The most popular destinations include coasts, mountains and national parks.

Traffic officials are advising travelers to plan for extra time, no matter where they are headed.

Oregon State Police said extra patrols will be on the roads throughout the weekend to help keep people safe.
