PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland police withdrew from a standoff with a man inside a southeast Portland home after they responded to a disturbance call in the area Friday morning.

Around 5 a.m. the Portland Police Bureau received a call from a woman who said her male roommate had had a mental crisis in the basement of their home and she thought she had heard gunfire.

PPB responded to the area and closed a large section between southeast 72nd Avenue and southeast Raymond Street while they attempted to contact the man.

The woman was able to exit the home safely.

Officers said attempts to communicate with the man were not successful and they chose to disengage their efforts and follow-up on a later date.

PPB said there is no apparent public safety risk at this time.

All roads are now open.
